Original Arrangement
Mccoy Tyner - Inception
This is my arrangement of "Inception" one of my favorite compositions by McCoy Tyner, reimagined for a 16-piece ensemble. Inspired by Tyner’s harmonic language and rhythmic drive, the arrangement expands the original trio setting into a full big band context while preserving its spirit and intensity. Arranging music like this is one of my favorite things to do, and I approached the orchestration as a natural extension of the tune’s sound. The performance features solos from myself, Dash Haubrich, Matthew Chavez, and Graham Simpler.
Original Composition
Lost and Found
“Lost and Found” is an original composition I wrote for a performance at Monks Jazz Club in Austin, Texas. Inspired by the playing and writing of Kenny Kirkland, one of my biggest musical influences, the tune is a waltz built on rich harmony with a modern groove that sits somewhere between straight ahead swing and contemporary jazz. The title reflects the atmosphere I wanted to create, a feeling of being lost in a new environment before gradually finding your place. The performance features some of my favorite musicians: Eli Wyatt on soprano saxophone, Miguel Rodriguez on bass, and Matias Soto Alvear on drums.
Electronic Jazz Album
Skyscribing
Skyscribing is an album I wrote and produced in 2024 that explores my work with electronic music. My writing draws from many different influences, and electronic music has always been a particular fascination of mine. This record represents a meeting point between those electronic interests and my background in jazz. I am very proud of the project and had the opportunity to collaborate with several excellent musicians, including Frank Chapa, Luke Young, and Erik “Ewik” Nelson. The album is available on all streaming platforms.
